About Zinc
Zinc is a live metal; it is ideally suited to an industrial-style interior look. We supply zinc worktops, table tops, etc, in either a natural or patina finish. The patina finish is a starting point away from new zinc for it to continue to acquire patina. Natural will also patina with use and age and react to its environment.
We are asked about lacquering zinc worktops to preserve the initial look, but we don’t recommend this; worktops generally get a lot of traffic and damage to the lacquer is fairly inevitable.
Areas with heavy use and zinc that is washed more regularly will patina differently. In the end, the whole top will mature with time and become rustic.
Basic Zinc Worktop How its done
We collaborate with architects, designers, kitchen companies, and private clients to create stunning worktops.
Many clients provide their own timber carcasses for us to clad. The production process begins in our woodworking department, where we assemble the substrate using CNC equipment for precise cutting, typically in MRMDF or high-quality birch plywood.
Once the timber carcass is complete, it moves to the metalworking shop for zinc cladding. Our computerized machinery ensures accuracy in both cutting and bending, while corner details are expertly soldered.
The final stage involves finishing in our patina studio, after which the completed zinc worktop undergoes a thorough inspection before being packed for shipping or collection.
Whole Zinc Kitchens
When we clad kitchen doors and cupboard panels in zinc, we need to work with your kitchen manufacturer/installer to achieve the best results. We need to discuss dimensional tolerances for the added metal thickness, and the hinge design needs consideration.
Typically, the kitchen fitter installs everything, including the tops. The installer will often supply the worktop timber carcass to us for zinc cladding. This often happens where a wall is not dead straight, and the worktop has to be scribed and cut specially to fit.
The whole project is a joint effort.
