4. Customization & Sizes
We understand that each space is unique, which is why we offer extensive customization options:
- Shapes: Rectangular, Square, Circular, D-end, or fully bespoke designs to match your specific requirements.
- Edges: Choose from Straight, Bullnose, or custom edge profiles to enhance the table’s aesthetic.
- Sizes: We use sheets of brass 300cm x 100cm and 240cm x 120cm so we can accommodate most people. A seam can be incorporated for a really big brass top, so the maximum size is what we can get through the door!
- Diameters: Round seamless tops up to 90cm diameter, tops with centre seams 240cm diameter!
- Thickness: Our standard thickness is 3cm, but other options are available upon request to suit your preferences.
- Metal Styles: Smooth, Beaten, Patchwork, Sunburst and whatever our customers come up with!
- Weight Consideration: A 3cm thick brass top weighs approximately 34kg per square meter. It’s essential to ensure that your chosen table base can support this weight.
Custom brass tables and table table tops are our USP!
5. Choosing a Table Base
Selecting the right table base is crucial for both aesthetics and functionality. While Designs 05 regularly creates custom table bases tailored to our customers’ designs, many clients prefer to source their own. The variety of ready-made table bases is vast. Here is a brief guide to assist you
- Sourcing: Many clients prefer to source their own bases. We recommend exploring options by searching for “table bases UK” or visiting architectural salvage yards for unique finds.
- Planning: It’s advisable to choose your base before ordering the table top to ensure accurate dimensions and compatibility.
- Strength: Ensure the base is robust enough to support the weight of the brass top. If you have any concerns, please send us a photo of your base before placing an order, and we can provide guidance on fixing point locations.

6. Brass Patina & Maintenance
Brass is a living material that naturally develops a unique patina over time, enhancing its character. Here’s what you need to know about its ageing process and care
- Natural Aging Process: Unlacquered brass develops a unique patina as it interacts with its environment, resulting in visible scuffs, scratches, and colour variations that blend together to create a rustic character.
- Cleaning Tips: Use warm, soapy water for regular cleaning. Avoid harsh abrasives, which can remove the patina and damage the surface.
- Spill Precautions: Acidic substances like tea, coffee, juice, and alcohol can accelerate patina development. Clean up spills promptly to maintain the brass’s desired appearance.
- Mirror Polished: Maintain the appearance with brasso-type cleaners or Bio-mex for an eco-friendly option.
- Hammered: To maintain the polish treat as mirror polished or leave it to develop its own patina naturally
- Lacquering Option: To maintain a more consistent finish, we offer a lacquer coating that protects the brass. However, lacquered brass is still sensitive to scratches and heat, so we recommend using trivets, placemats, and coasters.
