Let Designs 05 create a beautiful, high-quality copper worktop for your kitchen. There is nothing like natural copper as it ages and acquires a patina. Copper has a unique rustic charm with warm colour tones. It is also naturally antibacterial. Contact us with your project details.
Just look at this amazing installation. A bespoke copper kitchen island worktop. Note the bull-nosed sides all around. Its irregular pentagon shape adds extra character. The copper finish chosen was an aged patina. The contractor was S Hayward Construction.

These units have integrated upstands, so there are no crumb traps.

We also do brass, which is 63% copper with 37% zinc.

Copper Finishes
Below are our finishes for copper. Other than satin, the patinas are typical. The actual pattern that develops is unique to the piece it is applied to; no two pieces will be the same. Our in-house patina studio specialises in copper, brass, and zinc patinas. We can do variations, and we develop special patinas for clients who wish to commission them.
Natural Satin Copper and Typical Aged Copper are waxed after patina to clean the finish and moderate patina development. These will continue to develop into a lived-in patina with age and use.
The Blue and Green patinas need to be lacquered to seal the finish. As such, they are unsuitable as a work surface with heavy traffic and are only recommended for decorative effect. We have our own paint spray shop for lacquering.
Process
Basic Copper Worktop
We work with architects, designers, kitchen companies & private clients.
Worktop production starts in our woodworking department, where the substrate is assembled. We have CNC equipment to cut accurately, usually in MRMDF or high-quality birch plywood.
When the timber carcass has been produced, it passes to the metal working shop for copper cladding. Again, we have computerised machinery to ensure accuracy in cutting and bending. Corner details are TIG welded.
Often, matching copper splashbacks are integrated into the design; we can cut lengths up to 3 meters without a joint.
The third stage is finishing, which is done in our patina studio.
Finally, the finished worktop is inspected and packed for shipping or collection.
Matching Kitchen Units with a Copper Worktop
Often, customers decide to add more copper to a project, such as wall art in copper, upstands, splashbacks & cupboard doors. There is no problem manufacturing these. All we need are sizes, drawings or sketches. One potential issue, which is covered in the following paragraphs, is about cupboard doors.
When cladding kitchen doors and cupboard panels, we must work with your kitchen manufacturer/installer to achieve the best results. We need to discuss dimensional tolerances; for example, the added metal thickness and hinge design need consideration. Adding upgraded hinges or even two top hinges extends the life of your copper kitchen. This is because of the extra weight the copper adds to the doors, which could sag a little over the long term.
Typically, the kitchen fitter installs everything, including the tops. The installer will often supply the worktop timber carcass to us for copper cladding. This often happens when a wall is not straight, and the worktop must be scribed and cut specially to fit.
The whole project is a joint effort.
