Resurgence of Brass Sheet Metal Finishes

Welcome to our page dedicated to showcasing the stunning variety of brass sheet metal finishes available at Designs 05. With nearly 20 years of experience fabricating brass sheet metal, we have witnessed the enduring appeal of brass and its remarkable resurgence in modern design. Whether for contemporary spaces or classic applications, brass has cemented its place as a go-to material for its beauty, durability, and versatility.

This page highlights your many options when choosing a brass finish. In the first six images, explore natural brass finishes such as mirror polished, hammered, burnished, and brushed brass, each bringing its own unique texture and character. The rest of the gallery delves into the world of patinated brass, where you’ll discover an array of aged finishes, including antique brass, burnished aged brass, blue brass, and more.

From bold, reflective surfaces to the rich tones of aged patinas, our curated finishes allow you to bring warmth, sophistication, and individuality to any project. Designs 05 offers a finish for every style, ensuring that your vision is beautifully realised.

Hammered Brass SheetOur coppersmiths polished and hammered the mirror sheet. The hammered pattern is random, and the sheet is 0.7mm thick. Beating causes the sheet to develop a curvature due to stretching caused by the process. This straightens out when folded or when glued to a baseboard where it should be clamped.
Natural BrassThis is the brass sheet, as it comes from the sheet manufacturer in Germany or Italy. The finish is semi-bright and varies between batches. All our metal finishes start with natural brass.
Satin Brass SheetThis is a mill finished brass sheet that has been polished with fine grit on an orbital sanding machine to remove the mill surface to leave a matt finish. This surface patinates rapidly if not lacquered
Mirror Brass SheetOur mirror-polished brass sheet passes through the polishing machine twice to get a better quality than the usual commercial mirror sheet. Note that the grain is directional (seen easier when viewed obliquely), so this may need to be considered when designing features with this sheet. Maintenance for mirror brass is polishing with Brasso or similar cleaners; this also reduces noticeable grain.
Burnished Circles Brass SheetThis finish is achieved by hand-working the mill finish sheet, the circles pattern is not uniform
Brushed Brass SheetThis finish is applied by a subcontractor specialising in metal polishing using a machine so it is uniform, the grain follows the length of the sheet. Note if you design with this sheet remember the grain direction.
Light Aged Brass SheetThe lighter-aged effect is a variation of the dark-aged effect. Because the process time is less, we can vary the patina to a degree.
Dark Aged Brass SheetThis is fairly typical of a go-to finish when ageing brass sheets.
Lineal Burnished Antique Brass SheetThis finish was developed for a designer and has become part of our range of brass patinas.
Antique Brass SheetThis patina was developed to create an even older age appearance. The tonal variation is unique to each piece we create.
This can also be applied to brass flat bars and other brass sections.
Blue Brass SheetA unique patina finish for our brass sheets
Ombre Antique Brass SheetA patina developed for a designer that is now part of our range. The antique effect graduates from dark to a satinised finish
Burnished Antique Brass SheetThis is the antique brass further worked to achieve the burnished effect
